Cherry Drop Leaf Dining Table

Cherry drop leaf dining table with water damage to center section. I am going to remove finish from the top surface of the 3 sections, repair the damage, and then apply a new finish.
The damaged area is a strip of sap wood. The top had gotten wet while in storage. The white area is unprotected wood.

Damaged area has been stained to match other sap wood.

Rubbed out and ready to be assembled to the base in the back ground.

Depression Era Table

Repair work completed. Monday starts the color match.
A second look at the replacement squares.

New squares and end strip completes one part of the repair. The old squares were sized to fit the holes from the missing pieces on the rest of the top.

This table was hand made by a craftsman during the depression. Work was not always available so this work was a method of keeping busy. The two tone wood is walnut and white oak. There are some rough pine blocks in the section that requires rebuilding. There is a very thin coat of amber shellac on the surface.
